Scouts should spend time preparing by reviewing the requirements and preparing notes.
If you are prepared to complete a requirement, time can be made available for you to present to the group. Please contact the counselor prior to the event if you want to do this.
For the 3rd annual merit badge college (November 13, 2010) we will again use the same two study areas for demonstration. Immediately south of the college campus are two developments. One is the the site of the new elementary school for the Council Bluffs School District. It has not been developed yet, but it is planned. This site is just west of Valley View (Road) and east of the creek that runs along the western edge of the Iowa Western College campus. There is a sign on the northeast corner of the site.
The second site is just east of the first. A housing neighborhood is being developed just east of Valley View (Road), immediately south of the southeast portion of the college campus.
If you can, go to these two sites prior to the event and inspect them.
Make notes of what you see.
What are the potential environmental impacts of these developments?
How will these developments impact the environment?
What should be done to mitigate any anticipated negative impacts?
Take electroinic pictures and bring them to class.
