Instructions to Scouts taking Backpacking Merit Badge: Scouts should dress appropriately to be outside all day and to include a two to five mile hike. This class will be conducted at Oak Mountain State Park and transportation will be provided to and from.
Scout MUST: have read merit badge booklet and be prepared to discuss with confidence Requirements #1, 2B, 3A & B, 4A & B, 5B, 7A & B,
Scouts should be knowledgable of Requirements #5A, 6A & B, 8A & B, 9B,C,D,
Scouts should bring prepared Requirements #2A, 9A, 11A
Scouts should bring their backpack full packed for a weekend trip (less food) with a backpacking stove and fuel, properly stored; and each Scout should bring food necessary to prepare a HOT breakfast, HOT lunch, & HOT dinner - to complete Requirement #8C. Scouts should bring enough drinking water for the day and cooking water will be provided as needed.
Requirements we will NOT complete are: #10 and #11B & C.
