Communication

In my chosen career I manage a diverse team of engineers and function as the communication conduit between the engineering teams, support teams, customers, and senior management.  Each of these diverse groups have different perspectives and innate communication styles, so ensuring effective and clear lines of communication exists between these groups is integral to my daily work.

Introduction

Communication is important in your life. Being able to communicate effectively is key to achieving success. It is the way you get people to understand your values, interests, talents, abilities, needs, and wants.  It is how you show your knowledge about things.

Pre-Requisites –        …“Be Prepared”

Please read the latest version of the Communication merit badge booklet prior to the class. These books can be borrowed from your Troop Librarian, or ordered from The Atlanta Area Scout Shop, phone (770) 988-912, or visit the Scout Shop at 1800 Circle 75 Parkway, Se, Atlanta, GA 30339.  

Please print out a copy of the Communication Workbook and bring a copy with you to the class. By using this Requirements Resources link (use only with your parent's permission) you will find additional information that will help you with your prerequisite tasks.

For this Merit Badge Class you will be required to work on several of the requirements before coming to the class.

Requirement # 3… In order for you to have your Merit Badge signed off at the end of the class you must have completed this requirement. [See page 27 in the Communication booklet]. Also bring your speach along to the class. You may be called upon to present your 5 minute speach to the class so practuce it ahead of time.  

Requirement # 4… In order for you to have your Merit Badge signed off at the end of the class you must have completed this requirement. [See page 30 in the Communication booklet]. Please enter your notes into the Worksheet that you printed out and be prepared to present your introduction of the interviewee to your Counselor.

Requirement # 5… In order for you to have your Merit Badge signed off at the end of the class you must have completed this requirement.  [See page 30 in the Communication booklet]. Please enter your notes into the Worksheet that you printed out and be prepared to share your objective report and notes in class with your Counselor. Please bring evidence of your having attended the public meeting, e.g. photographs of you at the event.

Requirement # 7… In order for you to have your Merit Badge signed off at the end of the class you must have completed at one of the three options.  [See pages 41-55 in the Communication booklet]. Please enter your notes into the Worksheet that you printed out and be prepared to present the results of your choice to your Counselor.

Requirement # 8… In order for you to have your Merit Badge signed off at the end of the class you must have completed this requirement before coming to class. [See pages 57-69 in the Communication booklet]. If you do complete this requirement prior to class please bring copies of your planned program to review and discuss with your Counselor.

 Requirement # 9… In order for you to have your Merit Badge signed off at the end of the class you must have completed this requirement before coming to class. [See pages 71-75 in the Communication booklet]. Please enter your notes into the Worksheet that you printed out and be prepared to discuss the career you chose with your Counselor.
