Please complete the following in preparation for the Environmental Science Merit Badge:
- Secure a copy of the Environmental Science Merit Badge Pamphlet (latest printing 2006)
- Familiarize yourself with the pamphlet.
- Download and print a copy of the Merit Badge Worksheet (Environmental Science). Make sure it is the one with the new requirements.
3. Complete the following requirements and duly enter your work in the Worksheet
Complete requirement 1, 2, 3F (2) [Determine 10 ways to conserve resources, see page 66 in the Pamphlet. Practice at least two of the ways for seven days. We will discuss this as a group during our Merit Badge Session].
Also, do requirement 4. The two outdoor study areas should be different. You could select one which is in the shade all day and the second one could be an area which receives substantial sunlight.
We will work on all the other requirements during our Merit Badge sessions. Several experiments will be carried out by the Scouts to learn about the scientific method and also how a scientist goes about studying a problem.
You are encouraged to complete all the prerequisites. Completing the prerequisites will guarantee that you will complete all the requirements for the Environmental Science Merit Badge by the end of the session at Kennesaw State.
My Credentials to be a Merit Badge Counselor for the BSA Program
I am a Professor and a scientist who has published over one hundred research papers. We work in a new area which uses very small particles to improve human performance and in general improve the overall quality of life. The area is what we call nanoscience i.e. Very Tiny x Very Tiny = Even more Tiny). Our goal is using such small particles to improve human health and at the same time reduce adverse effects on the environment. Recent examples of our work include:
