Sponsor Information

The objective of the Topsanah District Merit Badge College is to provide Merit Badges that a Scout may not have an opportunity to take otherwise.

Scouts may sign up for three Merit Badges that will run between:  9:00 – 10:45; 11:00 – 1:30 (includes 45 minute lunch break) and 1:45 – 3:30.   Class sessions will be held over two Saturdays separated by three weeks and will require off site work (homework) and/or field trips in order to complete all requirements.

Scouts may not sign up for more than two Eagle required merit badges. Scoutmasters must discuss all merit badges with their Scouts prior to registering. Discussion should include encouragement to read ahead and to plan on doing homework in-between session.

Some merit badges have age restrictions because counselors requested an age limit and we are working in a group session and material is more complicated or for safety reasons.  Scouts must be the age listed by the end of the class (1 February 2020)

Remember that attendance alone may not result in all requirements being completed. Each Scout must individually meet every requirement.  Group credit will not be given.  If requirement states a Scout must demonstrate / explain or discuss then that is what each Scout is expected to do.

Description

Each Scoutmaster or designee will register their Troop.   Only one person per unit may register all Scouts in their units or guests of their untis using the MERITBADGE.INFO  system.

Registration will open on October 29th at 7:00 PM for Topsanah District and on November 12th at 6:00 PM for all units.  Registrations will close on November 29th midnight for all units.

Scouts will need to bring pen or pencil and workbooks or note paper. Units will be required to furnish Blue Cards to each Scout for each merit badge. If a Merit Badge requires additional expenses the Scout will pay the Counselor directly.  When registering Scouts and paying the registration fee to the Merit Badge College Coordinator DO NOT PAY ANY additional expenses (OA Food or Merit Badge Expenses, if any).  The OA services are provided independently of the Merit Badge College. OA money will be collected separately at Round Table or by other arrangement made with the OA.

Counselor Information
Unit Sign-up Instructions

Each Scoutmaster or designee will register their Troop using registration form provided to units (recommended). Only one person per unit may register all Scouts using the MERITBADGE.INFO system.  Before registering a Scout, ensure the Scout has had a discussion with his Scoutmaster.

Registration will open on October 29th at 7:00 PM for Topsanah District and on November 12th at 6:00 PM for all units outside of Topsanah District.  Registrations will close on November 29th midnight for all units.  Scouts will need to bring pen or pencil and workbooks or note paper. Units will be required to furnish Blue Cards to each Scout. If a Merit Badge requires additional expenses the Scout will pay the Counselor directly.  When registering and paying for Scouts DO NOT PAY ANY additional expenses to the Topsanah District Merit Badge College coordinator.

Registering early is a good thing to do!!! Classes will fill on first come first serve basis. ANY registrations after November 29th must be made directly with the Topsanah District Coordinator by email (MDGMITRO@verizon.net).  Registrations will be processed if space is available and merit badge pamphlets can be obtained.

Lunch will not be supplied, so plan to bring sack lunches or fill out an order to purchase a lunch form the Topsanah OA Chapter. The OA is asking units to preorder lunches in order to speed up distributing lunches.  The OA Grill will be selling lunch packages that includes 2 hot dogs, 1 bag of chips, can of soda and cookie. Hot Dogs can be replaced with a hamburger for $1.00 extra ($7.00 total).  To request an OA order form send an email to MDGMITRO@verizon.net

Payment Instructions for the Unit
The cost per Scout is $23.00.  This fee includes Merit Badge books for each merit badge and a patch. Everyone must pay $23.00.  Even if they only sign up for one or two Merit Badges.  Payment is due no later than December 3rd to the Topsanah District Merit Badge College coordinator. Checks should be made out to “Longhorn Council”.

When paying registration for Scouts; It is requested Troops ONLY pay the registration fee with one check.  Late registrants can pay by individual checks made out to Troop 709.  The goals is to have as few checks as possible to turn into Longhorn Council.  Do not include class fees or OA food costs with your registration fee.  Those fees need to be paid to the counselors or to the OA directly. OA Checks should be made out to: Crew 34.

All registration funds collected will be turned into Longhorn Council.  DO NOT BRING ANY CHECKS TO LONGHORN COUNCIL. THEY DO NOT KNOW WHICH ACCOUNT TO DEPOSIT THE MONEY TO!!! All checks issued prior to December 3rd should be made out to “Longhorn Council”.  After December 3rd checks should be made out to “Troop 709”.   Checks must be given to the Topsanah District Merit Badge Coordinator as early as possible.  Ideally no later than December 3rd (at Round Table).  If possible add a note to the check indicating “Topsanah MBC 2020”.
