Dr. Bushnell earned his Eagle award in 1983, with Troop 61 in the (then) Finger Lakes District. During his PhD, he helped to write the 1992 edition of the Chemistry Merit Badge and assisted with a Webelos den. After completing his Ph.D., he moved back to Rochester for a post-doc. He moved into the position of Core Director for a small Flow Cytometry Core facility before being promoted to oversee the URMC Flow Cytometry Facility. In 2012, he was again promoted to the director of the Shared Resource Laboratories, which support the research initiatives of the UR investigators. He is currently an Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Hematology, and recently earned an MBA from the Simon School.
He is also an international expert in the field of flow cytometry, training researchers around the world in this technique.
Dr. Bushnell returned to scouting with his youngest son and is currently active in Troop 111 in Brockport (Lighthouse district).
