Biography

Scott Harmon is VP of Sustainability and Business Development for Enlighted, a Silicon Valley energy efficiency company funded by Intel Capital, Draper Fisher, Kleiner Perkins and Rockport.  Enlighted has developed and is deploying a smart building sensor network that can be used to optimize lighting, heating/AC and employee comfort.  The company saves 60-80% of the electricity normally consumed by lights and had deployed in over 15,000,000 square feet.

This is Scott's sixth start-up company and the second dedicated to energy efficiency.  Prior to joining Enlighted, Scott was SVP of Business Development for the GPS Division of Trimble Navigation where he worked with corporate fleets to reduce fuel consumption using GPS technology to reduce engine idle time and improve route and driver efficiency.  Earlier in his career, he worked for TRW, Intel and Fairchild. Scott has a BSEE degree from Purdue University and an MBA from Pepperdine and has completed an Executive Program from Stanford University.

Scott is an Eagle Scout and earned the Vigil Honor from the Order of the Arrow when he was Lodge Chief.  He has also attended several National and World Jamborees as a scout, youth staff and adult staff member.

Why I am qualified to teach
Sustainability*
In the summer of 2009, Scott's son Jon, also an Eagle scout, changed his world view by exposing him to the many global resource and environmental problems facing our planet.  Since then, Scott has been working to create a sustainability program for BSA.  In 2012, he was asked by the President of BSA to build a team to create and launch the new Eagle-required Sustainability Merit Badge at the 2013 National Jamboree held this year at the new Summit Bechtel Reserve.  Scott is now working to create a BSA national committee on sustainability.
