Working with The Coca-Cola Company provides me constant opportunities to use and improve my communication skills and expertise. These skills are critical in daily interactions with other associates, management and our customers. In my role as Consumer Trends Mgr. I am frequently requested to give presentations to key customers, write point of view papers on the latest consumer trends, participate in planning discussions, give main stage presentations, and conduct training for associates in Atlanta and in other cities using new tools and technology. Each activity requires different communication skills and approaches as well as consideration of who is or is in the audience.
My Consumer Trends role is part of our Marketing Research Department which is responsible for testing the quality of our brand communications to consumers to be sure they deliver the intended message to the desired consumer across all types of media. The custom research (personal interviews with consumers) information we gather from consumers helps us understand what they think of our brand communications and Company efforts. We summarize these insights for others so they can take action to improve our communications.
While numerous data tables and detailed reports can communicate these findings, they are too often painfully dull and boring for the audience who generally would prefer "Just give me the bottom line!". Today our goal is to craft the findings to "Tell A Story" for the audience that engages them while clearly communicating the information in a memorable and enjoyable way.
