Sponsor Information |
This year's Akela District Merit Badge College is hosted by the Troops of the Akela District.
Please Direct all Questions to John Parks
|
Description |
Merit Badge College is offered every year to provide a venue for scouts to come together and explore mutual fields of interest.
We have expanded the number of classrooms again this year to reduce class size and add more classes to the offering.
The event will be offered over two Saturdays and consist of four sessions.
Session 1: April 5th Morning
Session 2: April 5th Afternoon
Session 3: April 12th Morning
Session 4: April 12th Afternoon
*Multiple Session classes* Some classes take more than one session to complete. All sessions needed are noted to the right of the Merit Badge and are required to be attended to complete the Merit Badge.
**Multiple Classes of the Same Merit Badge** Multiple classes of the same Merit Badge may be offered and will be noted on a separate line. Please do not sign up for more than one, thinking it is a multiple session class.
|
Counselor Information |
Upon arrival at GTCC, please check-in at the Counselor Check-in table. Classroom assignments will be available at this time. For your convenience, refreshments will be available in a staff hospitality room during check-in and session breaks. Session breaks are promoted. There are snacks for sale in areas near you. Please try to stagger your break times when it is not busy in the halls. You are invited to join us for Country BBQ or Pizza at Lunch. Please keep your class in your control until the class time is over.
Each boy should have a "Blue Card" signed by his Scoutmaster. These will need to filled out with the requirements completed in the class. If the councilor section is not filled out, please put your information on the card. You will have a roster as well for the class that must have the completed requirements put on it for back-up to be entered on-line for the Scout Leaders to have access to.
On behalf of the scouts and the Akela District, Thank you for being an important part of this year's Merit Badge College.
|
Unit Sign-up Instructions |
Registration is by Troop. Please have one adult leader designated as your unit coordinator for registering your scouts. Each scout may register for up to four classes.
Merit Badges offered are subject to change or cancelation, class minimums, and counselor availability. Scouts are registered on a first come, first serve basis. There are no waiting lists for any class offered. If a class is booked, please check the website frequently for availablity. New classes and class changes will be posted on Facebook (Akela District Merit Badge College). Additional classes and course selections may be added at anytime based on availability of counselors.
After added costs for Security and Classrooms we have held the cost of the College. It is still a deal at $15 for the entire event!
Scholarships are available for those in need. Please direct those needs thru the leader to AkelaMBC@gmail.com and include information of the need. Try to have these requests to us by March 1st and they will be subject to approval based on available funds. We want all boys to be able to attend!!!
Early Registration Is $15 begins February 1st - March 1st.
Late Registration Is $20 begins March 2nd - March28th.
You must add the activity "Late Registration" if you add a boy after March 1st. This does not happen automatically. If your money is not received at ONSC by 5PM or Paid online by the Midnight on March 1st. The extra $5 fee will be added. Please do not try to slip it by. It is very time consuming to call and ask for you to pay. Early registration allows us to order patches and supplies needed prior to the event.
Registration after March 28th is harder on the staff and rosters are not updated. We want all boys to have the availability to attend. If possible, please email or call prior to the Event to avoid bottlenecks on the day of MBC.
Registration covers Lunch each Day and a Merit Badge College Patch. Snacks will be available for sale during breaks.
Please remember to check often for changes and updates.
Walk-ins will be limited to space availablity on a first come first serve basis. Registration for walk-ins is $20.
Remember Webelos Activity Badges !!!!
These are offered in the same 3 hour sessions like Merit Badges and are great for Webelo 1 Boys needing extra Badges. The Web2 boys should be looking at the BSS advancement Sessions after Crossover to Boy Scouts.
Advancement Program (BSS Advancement or Early Scout Skills)
Non-Merit Badge Sessions. These are available for Boy Scouts needing many necessary skills needed for advancing to First Class rank. The Scoutmaster still is responsible for deciding whether the Scout has learned enough during the class to be signed off. A list of completed requirements will be provided to the Scoutmaster for evaluating the Scout prior to signing him off on the requirements. All requirements are using the new Scout Handbook 2010 version.
Class Recommendations by Scout Rank
Webelos May only take WEB Sessions
Webelos that Join a Troop prior to Merit Badge College need to register with the Troop and Need to take BSS Sessions (Basic Scouting Skills)
Boy Scouts under 1st Class rank are recommended to take the BSS Advancement Program - The requirements are listed beside each session that are offered - Merit Badges may be taken if BSS classes are not needed.
When signing a boy up for multiple BSS Sessions, Please sign him up for the same Counselor for all the Sessions needed. Also, be sure the boy gets to the correct class. Writing the Classroom # in Sharpee on the back of their hand is a great way to help.
