If you are having trouble registering scouts, carefully read the information on the help tab.
If you send an email that does not include the information we need to help you, it wastes time and will get promptly deleted.
Test drive the new site (in progress) at New Meritbadge.Info.Leave comments at our Facebook page.

Notice!!! Meritbadge.Info will switch to the new site with BSA validation Friday morning March 13th.

If you wish to start using this site today, click here to launch meritbadge.info/mbn2

Adults must enter their BSA Number, DOB, First and Last name as it appears on their BSA ID card. We will query BSA and get back an answer. At this point one of three things can happen:
1) Your registration is verified - you can continue using Meritbadge.info normally
2) You are not registered or your registration has lapsed - your prior rights are revoked and you get the read-only screens that you see before your login
3) You are registered but your YPT has expired - your prior rights are revoked and you get the read-only screens that you see before your login

You have had at least two months to get yourself registered and complete YPT training. If you feel your validation is not working, send us an email with the four data items listed and we will validate your entry.

We have no control over what is on file at BSA. If everything matches your BSA ID card, there should be no issues. If not, your validation will fail.

Why are we doing this?
1. To provide higher security and validation of all adult users.
2. To clean up the mess we've accumulated via 15 years of poor user data entry.

How will we do this?

What should you do?
Login to https://my.scouting.org/ and copy your BSA ID Number then update your profile on Meritbadge.info.  Let others in your unit know they should do the same.  We are giving you 2.5 months advanced notice to make this work.

Counselor Information

Unit Sign-up Instructions

Your Scouts should register for one merit badge, and only one.  All pre-requisites must be completed to ensure completion of the badge (if possible).  To verify completion, Scouts should bring with them any and all information gathered, written down, etc. in preparation for Merit Badge Day.

For Scouts signing up for Nuclear Science:  Prerequisites include 2a (Scouts should have the definitions written down, and we will use them in a game) and 8 (Scouts should be ready to share details on the chosen profession with the rest of the group).  Scouts must be at least 13 years old to participate.

For Scouts signing up for Metalwork:  The Scouts should complete Requirements 1, 2, and 4 and come prepared to share what they have learned with their Counselor and the other Scouts.  Scouts will be completing the "Founder" Option for Requirement 5.  Scouts MUST wear work boots or steel toe boots (preferred) and jeans--absolutely NO TENNIS SHOES.  UPDATE 24 Mar 15:  Metalwork will be a 1/2 day session only.  It will run from 1:00pm until 4:00pm.  Scouts should show up by 12:45pm at the MUB to register.  If Scouts do not plan to eat lunch with everyone, they do not need to pay the $5.

CANCELLED:  For Chemistry:  Scouts must complete Requirement 6 prior to arriving on Merit Badge Day.  The Scouts should be prepared to share what they have learned for Requirement 6 with their Counselor and the other Scouts.  LACK OF INTEREST.

CANCELLED:  For Electronics:  The Scouts must complete Requirement 6 prior to arriving on Merit Badge Day.  The Scouts should be prepared to share what they have learned for Requirement 6 with their Counselor and the other Scouts.

For Railroading:  Scouts must complete Requirements 2 and 8b3 prior to arriving for Merit Badge Day.  Scouts:  for 8b3, research must be completed on four historical groups, so bring the names of the groups, the websites for each, as well as what you learned about each group.  Choose one of those groups to contact...you may do this via email (with your parent(s)/guardian(s) permission)...and bring a copy of this correspondence to Merit Badge Day.  If you see the person in person or talk to them on the phone, write up a summary of the conversation and bring it with you to Merit Badge Day.

For Family Life (weather permitting--Counselor must travel from a distance, and if the weather is bad, the badge will not be available):  Scouts must realize that this merit badge can only be started on Merit Badge Day...it will take at least 90 days to complete this merit badge due to the requirements.  You must have a blue card signed by your Scoutmaster.  Prerequisites for Merit Badge Day are 1, 2, 3, 6a, and 7.  Scouts must read the requirements thoroughly and then do as instructed: prepare outlines and prepare/make lists--and then, the Scouts must be prepared to DISCUSS what they've learned, written down, done...yes, DISCUSS.  Additionally, please bring ideas for Requirements 4 and 5...the merit badge counselor must approve them before you begin them.  Once Merit Badge Day is over, the Scouts will be responsible for communicating with the Merit Badge Counselor via email as they work on the merit badge towards completion...it is NOT the Merit Badge Counselor's job to contact and follow up with the Scouts.  Please make sure the Scouts understand this responsibility.

For Mining in Society:  Scouts must complete the following requirements prior to Merit Badge Day:  1, 2, and 8b.  After registration and the opening ceremony, the Scouts will go up to the A.E. Seaman Mineral Museum on Sharon Ave for part of the day.  The merit badge counselor would like the Scouts to research the following for requirement #1:

Hematite

Halite

Copper: specifically elemental or native

Silica

Gypsum

Fluorite

Sphalerite

Bauxite

Borax

Galena

Directions to the Event

Many thanks to Michigan Tech for the following driving instructions from their website:

From the East

Navigate your way toward Marquette. We suggest following US-2 west along the north shore of Lake Michigan, turning right on M-77, and heading north to M-28. At M-28 turn left and head west to Marquette. Once in Marquette (or if starting in Marquette):

  1. Follow the roundabout to the left as M-28 becomes US-41.

  2. Follow US-41 North to Houghton.

  3. US-41 becomes Townsend Drive. The Memorial Union Building will be on your right.

  4. Turn right to enter the parking area either at the stop light at MacInnes Drive or at the next street near the Memorial Union Building.

From the South (Green Bay, Milwaukee, Chicago)

Travel north along the western shore of Lake Michigan. North of Green Bay, you’ll pick up US-141. From there:

  1. Follow US-141 to M-28 to US-41 North.

  2. US-41 becomes Townsend Drive. The Memorial Union Building will be on your right.

  3. Turn right to enter the parking area either at the stop light at MacInnes Drive or at the next street near the Memorial Union Building.

From the Southwest (Northern and North Central Wisconsin)

From central Wisconsin, traveling through Eagle River is the easiest way to make it to campus. From Eagle River, head north on US-45 to M-26. Once in Houghton:

  1. Stay in the right lane and follow the signs for US-41 South.

  2. Follow US-41 until the beginning of campus. The Memorial Union Building will be on your left.

  3. Turn left to enter the parking area just past the Administration Building (first tall sandy brown building on the left; a Wells Fargo branch will be on the right just before the Administration Building).

From the West (Ontonagon, Ironwood, Minnesota)

The most direct route from Minnesota to Michigan Tech is through Duluth. Ironwood Scouts, pick it up from here:  Follow US-2 east to M-28 in Wakefield, Michigan. Continue east on M-28 to US-45. Turn left and head north to M-26. Ontonagon Scouts, follow M-38 and then take M-26 (do not follow M-38 by turning right towards Baraga).

Release Information
Scouts' names, ages and parents' or Scout's personal email addresses will be shared with the Merit Badge Counselors so they can properly prepare for Merit Badge Day.  The information will not be shared outside of this venue and with no other person or entity, and will be maintained with the blue cards for each Counselor.
