If you are having trouble registering scouts, carefully read the information on the help tab.
If you send an email that does not include the information we need to help you, it wastes time and will get promptly deleted.
Test drive the new site (in progress) at New Meritbadge.Info.Leave comments at our Facebook page.

Notice!!! Meritbadge.Info will switch to the new site with BSA validation Friday morning March 13th.

If you wish to start using this site today, click here to launch meritbadge.info/mbn2

Adults must enter their BSA Number, DOB, First and Last name as it appears on their BSA ID card. We will query BSA and get back an answer. At this point one of three things can happen:
1) Your registration is verified - you can continue using Meritbadge.info normally
2) You are not registered or your registration has lapsed - your prior rights are revoked and you get the read-only screens that you see before your login
3) You are registered but your YPT has expired - your prior rights are revoked and you get the read-only screens that you see before your login

You have had at least two months to get yourself registered and complete YPT training. If you feel your validation is not working, send us an email with the four data items listed and we will validate your entry.

We have no control over what is on file at BSA. If everything matches your BSA ID card, there should be no issues. If not, your validation will fail.

Why are we doing this?
1. To provide higher security and validation of all adult users.
2. To clean up the mess we've accumulated via 15 years of poor user data entry.

How will we do this?

What should you do?
Login to https://my.scouting.org/ and copy your BSA ID Number then update your profile on Meritbadge.info.  Let others in your unit know they should do the same.  We are giving you 2.5 months advanced notice to make this work.

Description

The Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area (LLELA) will be conducting two merit badge workshops for  scouts on November 9th, 2019. The workshops are limited to the first 20 scouts who signed up. The merit badge workshops are:

Bird Study - from 9:30 AM – 12:00 PM,

a 30-minute brown-bag lunch break from 12:00 PM – 12:30 PM, and then

Reptile/Amphibian Study - from 12:30 PM – 3:00 PM.

Bird Study - https://drive.google.com/drive/u/1/folders/1P_Ny7mg5vyEv-V_ECBo7mhCtNVZBvVFQ

Reptile/Amphibian Study https://drive.google.com/drive/u/1/folders/1sPtEaFlVvVhKmLb19PBrPKFs04d58zc1

For Bird Study, we can accomplish almost all requirements during the workshop except Reqs 5 and 9:

Requirement 5: …Prepare a field notebook. (This workshop includes materials to prepare your Field Notebook.)

“…Observe and be able to identify at least 20 species of wild birds….” LLELA can’t control the number of species that you will be observing that day, so this requirement may be completed pre- and/or post-work. You can do the observation in your backyard with a bird guide (can borrow a copy from the library) or by attending the Heard Museum guided Bird Walks, which starts at 8:00 AM sharp the Second Saturday of each month from September to June. You will learn Bird Spotting and Identification techniques, which will help complete Requirement #5. The bird walk is free, but there is a general admission cost to the museum.

Requirement 9: asks the scouts to put a bird feed, bird bath, or habitat in their backyard. This is on your own.

For Reptile/Amphibian Study, you will need to do Requirement #8 on your own. Scouts either maintain a reptile or amphibian for a month or observe one weekly at a zoo or nature center for three months.

The program fee will be $10 per merit badge and there may be a $5 parking fee (to be paid at the gate) depending on whether the parent plans to stay for the workshops. Please let us know whether you plan for a drop-off so that we will have a count for the gate attendant to let you through without fees.

Other information from LLELA:

• Scouts may not be able to join the group after the workshop has already started, so please arrive on time and plan to stay for the entire workshop.

• Each Student will need a bottle of water, a sack lunch, and a name tag (I have your name tag). Sweet drinks such as sodas and sports drinks can attract wasps and bees and do not hydrate as well as water. We recommend that students, teachers, and parents bring water as their only drink.

• Students need to be properly dressed for both the weather and full participation in outdoor activities. Long pants and closed-toe shoes are required (even in warm weather) as protection from poison ivy, thorns, and biting insects. Apply sunscreen and insect repellent before leaving your house.

• LLELA is a wildlife management area. Students must be respectful of the animals and plants here at all times. We support “leave no trace” principles—no littering, no collecting of natural objects, staying on the trail when possible, etc.

• If something unexpected comes up or if there is a weather-related issue, call the LLELA Education Coordinator at 214-587-6115 (cell) any time after 6:30 a.m.
