Adults must enter their BSA Number, DOB, First and Last name as it appears on their BSA ID card. We will query BSA and get back an answer. At this point one of three things can happen:
1) Your registration is verified - you can continue using Meritbadge.info normally
2) You are not registered or your registration has lapsed - your prior rights are revoked and you get the read-only screens that you see before your login
3) You are registered but your YPT has expired - your prior rights are revoked and you get the read-only screens that you see before your login

You have had at least two months to get yourself registered and complete YPT training. If you feel your validation is not working, send us an email with the four data items listed and we will validate your entry.

We have no control over what is on file at BSA. If everything matches your BSA ID card, there should be no issues. If not, your validation will fail.

Why are we doing this?
1. To provide higher security and validation of all adult users.
2. To clean up the mess we've accumulated via 15 years of poor user data entry.

Login to https://my.scouting.org/ and copy your BSA ID Number then update your profile on Meritbadge.info.  Let others in your unit know they should do the same.  We are giving you 2.5 months advanced notice to make this work.

Description
Windstream Communications is offering a merit badge event to all Scouts. Scouts will have the opportunity to work one of a selection of merit badges related to Business or in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.  Windstream professionals will instruct all merit badges.  These professionals have a degree or work in the area in which they will be instructing.  These professionals will include Managers, Directors, Senior Directors, Vice Presidents and Senior Vice Presidents.  There will be multiple professionals instructing each course, providing significant experience and knowledge. As such, these will be intensive sessions that will take most of the Saturday to work through the requirements that can be covered in a classroom setting. Outside of these requirements, the Scout will need to finish the other requirements to earn the merit badge.

Each Scout is to attend in the official Scouts BSA Field Uniform (Class A).

Arrival to Campus:

Troops/Scouts may arrive any time after 8:00 a.m.  Please plan to arrive no later than 8:30 a.m. to allow ample time to complete check-in and allow for on-time start.

 

Troop Check-in: 

Troops must check in upon arrival in the Employee Dining Hall, follow signs. Leave your Troop/Scout in the waiting area and send one adult leader to the check in desk.  Bring to Check-in the roster of Scouts attending with your unit to include emergency contact information.

 

Troop Adult Contacts:

Troop adult contacts (TAC) are the conduit between the Windstream staff and Scouts. At least one TAC per Troop must be present throughout the entire event. The TAC may be Scoutmasters, Assistant Scoutmasters, Committee Members, or Adult Volunteers that the Scoutmaster trusts to respond to problems or issues that may arise with troop members attending the event. TACs are responsible for:



  • Signing in for their Troop

  • Carrying a cell phone that can be reached all day by Windstream Staff (provide the cell phone number, as well as the names, times of relief and cell phone number of any other adults that are taking over the TAC responsibility later that day when signing in. (Note that there must be at least one TAC per Troop on-site throughout the entire event.);

  • Maintaining presence at the event and being able to assist with problems or issues while Troop members are in attendance;

  • Supporting and enforcing Leave no Trace; as well as the principles of the Scout Oath and Law;

  • Having accessible Medical Forms for each member of the Troop that is on site accessible should the need arise;

  • Ensuring that their Scouts know who the Troop Adult Contact is to avoid confusion; and

  • Monitoring attendance and early departure of Scouts.


Headquarters for the Event:

The Headquarters for event will be the check-in desk that you will visit when you first arrive, this will also serve as the location of first aid, lost & found and communication center. This area will always be manned by Windstream staff to help resolve any issues that arise during the day.

 

Lunch:

Lunch will be served in the Employee Dining Hall. Lunch will be provided by Hungry Howie’s Pizza consisting of a variety of pizzas, with gluten free pizza also available.  If there are any other dietary concerns scouts are asked to bring their own lunch. Each Registered Scout and adult will be provided with a lunch ticket (these will be given to the individual checking your troop in). These tickets must be presented in order to eat. Lunch should be eaten in or around the area.

 

Health, Safety, and First Aid:

There will be a First Aid kit at the Check-in/Info table and trained personnel on site for minor issues. In the case of a major disaster or severe weather, all attendees will be provided instructions on fire exits and safe-rooms.

 

Lost and Found:

The event Lost and Found will located at the Check-in/info table. The return of lost items after the end of the event is not guaranteed, so be sure to check before you leave. Put your name on EVERYTHING: books, papers, water bottles, coats, hats – EVERYTHING.



Additional Information for Scouts and Leaders:

Things of interest for Scouts:



  • You are expected to live up to the Scout Oath and Law while participating.

  • Attire: You are expected to attend in the official Scout Field uniform

  • Be Prepared: Bring a pen or pencil, as extensive notes will need to be taken to complete some of the requirements. 

  • Bring a filled water bottle.

  • Read the merit badge requirements in advance to be able to discuss the material during the class.

  • Review the Merit Badge Details section carefully to see what you will be able to complete at the college and what is required to do either before or after. In addition, bring that work with you.

  • Windstream will provide a copy of the current Merit Badge Workbook, which will be distributed in the class, but you may bring your own if you plan on working on some of the requirements beforehand.

  • The use of smartphones/cell phones during the actual merit badge instruction time is not permitted by default. If their use will be allowed, the counselor will specify when.



Things of interest for Parents/Leaders:




  • If you want to spend the day at the event, you will have access to the employee dining hall with WiFi, coffee and near-by vending machines.  There will also be ample space in the classrooms for parents and Scout Leaders and you are invited to sit in on these sessions.

  • We encourage Scout leaders to help us in providing additional leadership in classes. Most of our counselors/instructors are not affiliated with Scouting and are doing this on their own personal time.

  • Please review the list of Merit Badge classes offered and help your Scouts determine what classes they would be interested in and best suited to take. It is very important that leaders help their Scouts choose a badge that is appropriate to their age, rank and maturity level.  Please go over the requirements with your Scouts before they are signed up and make sure they know what will be expected of them.

  • If you have registered and learn ahead of time that a Scout will not be able to attend, we would appreciate being told so the class slots may be open to someone else.

  • Smoking is not permitted in the building or on campus outside of designated areas.  There is a designated smoking area on the West side of Building 3. Ask a Windstream volunteer if you need to know the exact location.

  • Drop off and pick up will be clearly marked with signage on the day of the event.  Building 3 is on the back side of campus, which can be entered from Rodney Parham Road.  You may also park anywhere parking lot while awaiting your Scout or if you will be spending the day with us.  Handicapped parking is available in front of the building.

  • Scoutmasters will be responsible for following up with merit badge completion and records for presentation.

Registration opens on Febuary 11, 2020

Registration is open to all registered Scouts of Scouts, BSA.

All participants must register in advance.  No walk-ins will be accepted.

Adults are welcome to stay and even attend classes, but those who wish to stay on-site must register in order to receive lunch.  The Employee Dining Room will be available with tables, chairs, coffee, WiFi and near-by vending machines in Building 3.

Space is limited.  If you have registered and learn ahead of time that a Scout will not be able to attend, we would appreciate you cancelling the registration or letting us know so the class slots may be open to another Scout.

 
Payment Instructions for the Unit


This merit badge event is fully sponsored by Windstream.  This event will be free to all registered Scouts, which includes the merit badge worksheet, materials and lunch.
