Description

This is a one day event which will allow scouts to earn either 1 or 2 merit badges of their choice (3 if they complete Pathfinding). Lunch and a participation patch will be provided to all attendees. Merit Badges to be offered are subject to change based on MB Counselor availability and class minimums. STMBC reserves the right to limit or cancel any class. NO WALK-INS will be allowed.

REGISTRATION: Registration by Troop is REQUIRED. Open enrollment will begin on the above stated date. Fees are non-refundable but can be transferred to another scout. MB Counselors require student e-mail or phone for coordination. UNIFORM: The Full B.S.A. uniform is the official uniform for the day.

CODE OF CONDUCT: The Scout Oath, the Law, and the Outdoor Code shall be the code of the Merit Badge Day. A Scout whose conduct is not consistent with the code will be directed to leave the school grounds immediately. Adequate supervision must be provided by each participating unit with a minimum of 2 adults per unit attending. Discipline is the responsibility of the Scoutmaster or other assigned leaders in charge of the troop.

TRANSPORTATION: The troop Leaders must coordinate arrival and departure time for transportation. Troops need to make certain that they have adequate transportation for their Scouts. Please advise your parents NOT to drop off or pick up scouts from the school. ALL transportation TO and FROM The Merit Badge Day must be arranged within your troop. Encourage everyone to carpool. Troops may not leave Scouts by themselves to be picked up by parents at a later time. We will not render sitting services.

CHECK IN: A Unit leader should check in the entire troop (please no individual check ins).  The Unit leader will be requested to leave cell phone number for emergency contact purposes.

CLEAN UP: The Scout is clean. Troop Leaders please coordinate with your troop to clean the premises and to keep the classrooms in the same condition as found. Future offerings of the Merit Badge College will largely depend on how neat we leave the place. All garbage must be properly disposed into designated containers or carried out.

STCC will have security on campus. Please report any incidents to the event organizers.

Merit Badge Books

All Scouts must bring to class the following: Merit Badge booklet, Merit Badge worksheet (http://usscouts.org/mb/framesindex.html), and any pre-requisite work.

PREREQUISITES: The Merit Badge Counselor will give credit for completed requirements ONLY. The Scout should complete all other requirements not covered in class, at his own pace and with his own troop counselors. Class work will be followed by individual Scout’s projects and his ability to fulfill all requirements.
Prerequisites will be listed under "Event Detail" under "Prerequisites" or the Merit Badge Counselor link (click on counselor name).

ADVANCEMENT RECORDS: After the merit badge event, if you have any questions about Scout advancement, please visit your "Unit Sign-Up" page and print the "Show & Print Roster."  We will try to have all requirements completed records posted within one week of the event.  A full report for the troop will be emailed to each registered adult that attends.

Unit Sign-up Instructions

Please signup only by units, not individuals. It will be assumed that the registration of a scout in a class will indicate the scoutmaster's approval for pursuing the merit badge. There will be 4 sessions listed. A morning session, an afternoon session, a full day session, and a lunch session. A scout can be registered for either a full day or a morning and/or afternoon session. Any scout wishing to earn the Pathfinding merit badge, can register for the lunch session where they will be able to review the personal work they have done prior to the class and have the requirements checked off.

SCOUT PREPARATION Many classes have pre-requisites which must be done if you wish to complete the badge during class. Some classes also have age and/or rank requirements. Unless indicated otherwise, all other requirements for the Merit Badge should be covered in class.

For ALL classes, Scouts are required to READ and BRING the Merit Badge pamphlet.

UNDER FIRST CLASS  Scouts First Class & under are allowed & encouraged to attend Merit Badge College. Please try to guide the younger Scout’s to an appropriate Merit Badge for their maturity level.

Another option for newer scouts will be the Trailblazer sessions which are offered in both AM and PM sessions.  A scout may register for either or both sessions.  This class (designated GEN Web to First Class) will allow the scout to work on scout craft areas for rank advancement.  Within the AM session they may also register for YTH First Class Advancemnt, which is to cover First Class Requirement 5 by attending an interactive session with a Judge to discuss constitutional rights and obligations as a U.S. citizen.  Please note, this session requires the scout to have prepared by reading the US Constitution and first ten amendments.
